Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup piloncillo, grated
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. 1Blend oats with 1 cup milk and 1 cup water until very smooth.
  2. 2Pour the oat mixture into a saucepan with remaining milk, remaining water, cinnamon stick, and piloncillo.
  3. 3Cook over medium-low heat for 10–12 minutes, whisking often as the drink thickens.
  4. 4Reduce heat if the mixture begins bubbling vigorously or sticking to the bottom.
  5. 5Remove the cinnamon stick and stir in vanilla and salt.
  6. 6Serve hot, thinning with a splash of milk if it thickens more than you prefer.

💡 Whisk frequently once the oats heat up; their starch thickens quickly and can scorch on the bottom of the pot.
