⏱ 45 minServes 8American
Ingredients
- •1 store-bought pound cake or sponge cake
- •1 quart vanilla ice cream
- •4 egg whites
- •1/2 cup granulated sugar
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- •1 tablespoon butter
Directions
- 1Line a bowl with plastic wrap and layer sliced pound cake on the bottom. Soften the ice cream slightly and press it into the bowl over the cake. Fold extra cake over the ice cream and freeze for at least 2 hours until solid.
- 2Preheat oven to 425°F. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form, then gradually add sugar while beating until stiff, glossy peaks form. Fold in vanilla extract.
- 3Turn the frozen cake and ice cream dome out onto a buttered baking sheet.
- 4Quickly cover the entire dome with the meringue, making sure to seal it completely and create decorative peaks with the back of a spoon.
- 5Bake for 3-5 minutes until the meringue is golden brown. Serve immediately.
