Ingredients

  • 1 pound phyllo dough
  • 2 cups walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix chopped walnuts, pistachios, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. 2Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 6 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter.
  3. 3Spread half the nut mixture evenly over phyllo, then add 4 more buttered phyllo sheets, remaining nuts, and 6 final buttered phyllo sheets.
  4. 4Cut baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife, cutting through all layers.
  5. 5Bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. 6While baking, combine honey, sugar, water, and vanilla in a saucepan. Simmer for 15 minutes, then cool slightly.
  7. 7Pour warm syrup over hot baklava immediately after removing from oven. Let cool completely before serving.
