Baklava
Crispy phyllo pastry layers filled with nuts and soaked in sweet honey syrup.

Ingredients
- •1 pound phyllo dough
- •2 cups walnuts, finely chopped
- •1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
- •1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- •1 cup butter, melted
- •1 cup honey
- •1 cup sugar
- •1 cup water
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix chopped walnuts, pistachios, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- 2Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 6 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter.
- 3Spread half the nut mixture evenly over phyllo, then add 4 more buttered phyllo sheets, remaining nuts, and 6 final buttered phyllo sheets.
- 4Cut baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife, cutting through all layers.
- 5Bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 6While baking, combine honey, sugar, water, and vanilla in a saucepan. Simmer for 15 minutes, then cool slightly.
- 7Pour warm syrup over hot baklava immediately after removing from oven. Let cool completely before serving.
