Ingredients

  • •1 lb steak, thinly sliced into strips
  • •1.5 cups pearl barley, quick-cook
  • •2 cups mixed vegetables, frozen
  • •3 tbsp barbecue sauce
  • •1 cup chicken broth
  • •1 tsp garlic powder
  • •1 tsp red chili flakes
  • •1 tbsp ghee or oil

Directions

  1. 1Cook pearl barley in chicken broth plus 1 cup water for 18 minutes until tender, drain.
  2. 2Heat ghee or oil in a large skillet over high heat until shimmering.
  3. 3Season steak strips with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and red chili flakes.
  4. 4Sear steak strips 3 minutes until browned; do not overcrowd the pan.
  5. 5Add mixed vegetables to skillet, cook 3 minutes, then stir in barbecue sauce.
  6. 6Fold cooked barley into skillet, toss everything together, and serve hot.

💡 Quick-cook barley still absorbs sauce aggressively. Add barbecue sauce only after the barley is tender or the skillet can tighten into a sticky mass.
