Blondie Bars

Chewy, buttery brown sugar bars loaded with chocolate chips and walnuts, a delicious blonde cousin to the brownie.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. 2Cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  3. 3In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. 4Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts, then spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  5. 5Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. 6Cool completely in pan, then cut into 16 squares and serve.
