Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for topping

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. 2Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. 3Cut in cold butter cubes until mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces remaining.
  4. 4Stir in buttermilk until just combined and a shaggy dough forms.
  5. 5Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently knead 4-5 times, then pat to 3/4-inch thickness and cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.
  6. 6Place biscuits on a baking sheet and brush tops with melted butter.
  7. 7Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
