⏱ 75 minServes 12American

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. 2Cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy, then beat in eggs one at a time. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, starting and ending with flour. Stir in vanilla.
  3. 3Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks.
  4. 4Prepare frosting by heating butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3-4 minutes until caramelized. Remove from heat and stir in cream until smooth. Cool for 15 minutes.
  5. 5Place one cake layer on a plate and drizzle with caramel sauce. Spread frosting over it, then top with second layer.
  6. 6Frost the top and sides of cake with remaining frosting, then drizzle with additional caramel sauce. Chill before serving.
