Caramel Tart

A buttery shortbread crust topped with layers of rich caramel and dark chocolate that melts on your tongue.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup sugar for caramel
  • 6 tablespoons butter for caramel
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter for chocolate

Directions

  1. 1Mix flour, softened butter, sugar, and salt until crumbly; press into a 9-inch tart pan and bake at 375°F for 12-15 minutes until golden.
  2. 2For caramel, melt 1 cup sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until amber-colored, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. 3Remove from heat and stir in 6 tablespoons butter and heavy cream until smooth; let cool for 5 minutes, then pour into cooled crust.
  4. 4Melt dark chocolate with 2 tablespoons butter, then spread evenly over the caramel layer.
  5. 5Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes until set, then slice and serve.
