Ingredients

  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme

Directions

  1. 1Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add sliced onions with salt and pepper.
  2. 2Cook onions for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden brown and caramelized.
  3. 3Stir in minced garlic and thyme, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. 4Deglaze the pan with balsamic vinegar and let it reduce for 1 minute, then remove from heat and cool slightly.
  5. 5In a bowl, combine sour cream, cream cheese, and Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  6. 6Fold the cooled caramelized onions into the cream cheese mixture until well combined.
  7. 7Transfer to a serving bowl and serve with crackers, bread, or vegetable crudités.
