Ingredients
- •2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
- •1.5 cups warm water
- •1 teaspoon salt
- •1 pound ground beef
- •1 medium onion, diced
- •2 cloves garlic, minced
- •2 cups shredded green cabbage
- •0.5 cup crema or sour cream
- •2 tablespoons lime juice
- •2 teaspoons cumin
- •Oil for frying
Directions
- 1Mix masa harina, warm water, and salt until a soft dough forms, let rest 10 minutes.
- 2Brown ground beef in a skillet with onion and garlic, add cumin and salt to taste, cook 8 minutes.
- 3Divide masa into 8 balls and flatten between plastic wrap into thin ovals.
- 4Heat oil in a deep pan and fry each masa oval until golden, using a spoon to shape into a boat form while frying.
- 5Drain fried chacales on paper towels.
- 6Toss shredded cabbage with crema and lime juice to make slaw.
- 7Fill each chacale with seasoned ground beef and top generously with cabbage slaw.
