Char Siu Pork

Tender, caramelized pork belly glazed with a sweet and savory Asian sauce, perfect served over rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pork belly, cut into 2-inch thick strips
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Directions

  1. 1Mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, food coloring, and white pepper in a bowl to create the marinade.
  2. 2Place pork strips in a large baking dish and coat generously with the marinade, reserving 1/4 cup sauce for basting.
  3. 3Marinate for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator, turning pork halfway through.
  4. 4Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
  5. 5Arrange marinated pork on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  6. 6Bake for 40-50 minutes, basting with reserved sauce every 15 minutes, until the edges are caramelized and the pork is cooked through.
  7. 7Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve hot over steamed rice with extra sauce drizzled on top.
