Chicken Fried Steak

Ingredients
- •1.5 lbs beef cube steak or round steak
- •1 cup all-purpose flour
- •1 tsp salt
- •0.5 tsp black pepper
- •0.5 tsp garlic powder
- •2 eggs
- •2 tbsp milk
- •2 cups vegetable oil for frying
- •3 tbsp butter
- •3 tbsp flour
- •2 cups whole milk
Directions
- 1Mix 1 cup flour with salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow dish. Whisk eggs with 2 tbsp milk in another dish.
- 2Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, shake off excess, dip in egg mixture, then coat again in flour.
- 3Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry steaks 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a plate.
- 4Pour off most oil from the skillet, leaving about 2 tbsp. Add butter and melt over medium heat.
- 5Whisk in 3 tbsp flour to create a roux, stirring constantly for 1 minute until lightly browned.
- 6Slowly pour in 2 cups milk while whisking constantly until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 7Arrange steaks on a serving platter and pour the hot country gravy over top. Serve immediately.
