Chocolate Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F and bake the pie crust for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
  2. 2In a saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. 3Gradually stir in milk until smooth, then cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil (about 8-10 minutes).
  4. 4Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. 5Pour the chocolate filling into the pre-baked crust and let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  6. 6Before serving, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form and top each slice with whipped cream.
