Churros with Chocolate

Crispy fried pastry sticks dusted with cinnamon sugar, perfect for dipping in rich, velvety hot chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Directions

  1. 1Heat 1 cup water with salt and 2 tablespoons oil in a pot until boiling, then remove from heat and stir in flour until a thick dough forms.
  2. 2Heat 2 quarts of oil in a deep pan to 375°F. Transfer dough to a churrera or piping bag with a large star tip.
  3. 3Pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side, then drain on paper towels.
  4. 4Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish, then coat warm churros generously in the mixture.
  5. 5Heat milk and chocolate in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until melted and smooth, then add sugar to taste.
  6. 6Serve churros hot with the warm chocolate sauce for dipping.
