Classic American Hamburgers

Ingredients
- •1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
- •1 tsp salt
- •0.5 tsp black pepper
- •4 hamburger buns
- •4 slices cheddar cheese
- •4 leaves lettuce
- •4 slices tomato
- •4 slices onion
- •4 tbsp mayonnaise
- •2 tbsp ketchup
Directions
- 1Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties about 3/4 inch thick, making a small indent in the center with your thumb.
- 2Heat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat and season patties with salt and pepper just before cooking.
- 3Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness, adding a slice of cheese in the last minute and covering with a lid to melt.
- 4Toast the hamburger buns lightly in the skillet or on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- 5Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on the bottom buns, then layer with lettuce, tomato, onion, and the cooked burger patty with melted cheese.
- 6Top with the upper bun and serve immediately with your favorite condiments and sides.
