Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon milk for brushing

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. 3Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  4. 4Beat egg and milk together, then add to dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. 5Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times, then pat into a 1-inch thick round.
  6. 6Cut into 8 wedges or use a 2-inch biscuit cutter, brush tops with milk, and place on prepared baking sheet.
