Classic English Scones

Ingredients
- •2 cups all-purpose flour
- •1/4 cup granulated sugar
- •1 tablespoon baking powder
- •1/2 teaspoon salt
- •6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
- •1/2 cup whole milk
- •1 large egg
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •2 tablespoons milk for egg wash
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- 2Cut cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3In a small bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour into the dry mixture and stir until just combined into a soft dough.
- 4Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently knead 2-3 times. Pat into a 3/4-inch thick disk.
- 5Cut into 8 wedges using a sharp knife, or cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- 6Brush tops with milk for egg wash. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- 7Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving warm with clotted cream and jam.
