Cottage Pie
A comforting British classic with savory ground beef filling topped with creamy mashed potatoes and melted cheese.

Ingredients
- •2 tablespoons olive oil
- •1 large onion, diced
- •2 cloves garlic, minced
- •1 pound ground beef
- •1 cup diced carrots
- •1 cup diced celery
- •2 cups beef broth
- •2 tablespoons tomato paste
- •2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
- •4 tablespoons butter
- •½ cup milk
- •1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- •to taste Salt and pepper
Directions
- 1Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with butter and milk until creamy.
- 2Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté onion, garlic, carrots, and celery for 5 minutes until softened.
- 3Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- 4Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- 5Transfer beef mixture to a baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top and sprinkle with cheese.
- 6Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbling around the edges. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
