Cream Puffs

Light and airy choux pastry shells filled with sweet whipped cream, a classic French dessert that's surprisingly simple to make.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 400°F. Bring water and butter to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. 2Remove from heat and stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  3. 3Beat in eggs one at a time until fully incorporated and smooth.
  4. 4Pipe or drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and puffed.
  5. 5Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. 6Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  7. 7Cut puffs in half horizontally and fill with whipped cream, then dust tops with granulated sugar before serving.
