Ingredients
- •2 cups all-purpose flour
- •1 cup whole wheat flour
- •1 teaspoon salt
- •2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- •1 cup yellow split peas (dal)
- •3 cups water
- •1 medium onion, finely chopped
- •2 cloves garlic, minced
- •1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- •1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- •1 teaspoon chili powder
- •2 tablespoons oil for deep frying
Directions
- 1Rinse dal and cook in 3 cups water with turmeric until soft, about 25 minutes.
- 2Mix all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons oil with water to form a soft dough, let rest 20 minutes.
- 3Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, then onions and garlic, sauté until golden.
- 4Add cooked dal to the pan with chili powder and salt, simmer for 5 minutes to combine flavors.
- 5Divide dough into 8 balls and roll each into a thin circle.
- 6Heat oil for frying in a deep pan until hot, fry each puri until puffed and golden on both sides.
- 7Serve hot puris alongside the spiced dal curry.
