Dates with Almonds

A simple, naturally sweet Middle Eastern breakfast of plump dates stuffed with crunchy almonds and served with creamy cheese.

Ingredients

  • 12 Medjool dates
  • 1 cup whole almonds
  • 8 oz labneh or cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons pistachios, chopped

Directions

  1. 1Pit the dates by making a small slit along the side and carefully removing the pit with a knife or your fingers.
  2. 2Toast the almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, shaking occasionally, until fragrant.
  3. 3Stuff each date with 2-3 roasted almonds, pressing gently to fill the cavity.
  4. 4Arrange the stuffed dates on a serving plate and dollop labneh or cream cheese alongside.
  5. 5Drizzle honey over the dates and cheese, then sprinkle with cinnamon, sea salt, and chopped pistachios.
  6. 6Serve at room temperature or chilled.
