Ingredients

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. 1Pour sweetened condensed milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and stir in baking soda until well combined.
  2. 2Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning and sticking on the bottom.
  3. 3Continue cooking for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring frequently, until the mixture turns a deep golden brown and thickens significantly.
  4. 4Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  5. 5Allow the dulce de leche to cool completely before transferring to a jar for storage.
