French Onion Dip

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. 1Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add sliced onions with salt and pepper, stirring occasionally until deeply caramelized, about 25 minutes.
  2. 2Transfer caramelized onions to a bowl and let cool slightly, then stir in sour cream, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and fresh thyme.
  3. 3Fold in the grated Gruyère cheese until well combined.
  4. 4Transfer the dip to a baking dish, top with Parmesan cheese, and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes until heated through and lightly golden.
  5. 5Serve warm with chips, crackers, or toasted bread slices.
