Fried Okra

Ingredients
- •1 pound fresh okra, trimmed and halved lengthwise
- •1 cup cornmeal
- •1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- •1 teaspoon salt
- •1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- •1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- •1/2 cup buttermilk
- •2 cups vegetable oil
Directions
- 1Pour buttermilk into a shallow bowl and place okra pieces in it, stirring to coat evenly.
- 2In another shallow bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 3Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4Remove okra from buttermilk and dredge in the cornmeal mixture, shaking off excess.
- 5Carefully place okra in hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- 6Transfer fried okra to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil, then serve immediately.
