Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 jar (32 oz) dill pickle spears, drained
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing for serving

Directions

  1. 1Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F.
  2. 2Mix flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a shallow bowl.
  3. 3Pat pickle spears dry with paper towels, then dip each into buttermilk.
  4. 4Coat buttermilk-dipped pickles in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  5. 5Carefully place pickles into hot oil in small batches and fry for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. 6Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. 7Serve immediately with ranch dressing for dipping.
