Garlic Naan

Soft, pillowy Indian flatbread brushed with garlic-infused butter and fresh cilantro.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Directions

  1. 1Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Add yogurt and oil, then gradually add warm water while kneading until you form a soft, smooth dough.
  2. 2Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for 30-45 minutes.
  3. 3Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  4. 4Heat a cast iron skillet or tawa over medium-high heat.
  5. 5Roll out one dough ball into a thin oval or round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. 6Place the dough on the hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until light brown spots appear.
  7. 7While still warm, melt butter with minced garlic in a small pan for 1-2 minutes.
  8. 8Brush the hot naan generously with garlic butter and sprinkle with fresh cilantro.
