Ingredients
- •3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- •1 cup granulated sugar
- •1 large egg
- •1/4 cup molasses
- •2 cups all-purpose flour
- •2 teaspoons baking soda
- •1 tablespoon ground ginger
- •1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- •1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- •1/4 teaspoon salt
- •2 tablespoons granulated sugar for rolling
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, mix shortening and 1 cup sugar until creamy, then beat in egg and molasses.
- 2In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- 3Combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
- 4Roll dough into 1-inch balls, coat with remaining sugar, and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
- 5Bake for 8-10 minutes until cookies are set but still soft in the center.
- 6Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
