⏱ 30 minServes 4Greek
Ingredients
- •680 g (1.5 lb) ground lamb
- •½ cup crumbled feta cheese
- •3 garlic cloves, minced
- •2 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped
- •2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
- •1 tsp dried oregano
- •½ tsp ground cumin
- •¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- •1 tsp each salt and black pepper
- •½ cup store-bought tzatziki
- •4 pita bread or burger buns
- •½ English cucumber, thinly sliced
- •1 ripe tomato, sliced
- •¼ red onion, thinly sliced into rings
- •1 tbsp olive oil
Directions
- 1Combine lamb, feta, garlic, mint, parsley, oregano, cumin, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper in a bowl; mix gently until just combined — overmixing makes patties tough.
- 2Form mixture into 4 patties about 2 cm thick; make a small dimple in the center of each.
- 3Heat a grill or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat; brush with olive oil.
- 4Cook patties for 4 minutes per side for medium (68°C internal), or 5 minutes per side for well-done.
- 5While patties rest, warm pitas on the grill or directly over a gas flame for 30 seconds per side.
- 6Spread a generous spoonful of tzatziki on each pita, then top with cucumber, tomato, red onion, and the lamb patty.
💡 Ground lamb is carried at most major Canadian grocery chains (Loblaws, Sobeys, Metro). If unavailable, a 50/50 mix of ground beef and ground pork makes a delicious stand-in. Kalamata olives and roasted red peppers are fantastic optional toppings.
