  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. 1Rub cold butter into flour and salt until coarse crumbs form.
  2. 2Add cold water gradually and bring the pastry together without overworking it.
  3. 3Mix cheddar, mustard, black pepper, and hot sauce.
  4. 4Roll pastry into rectangles, add cheese filling, and roll into logs.
  5. 5Brush with beaten egg and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes.
  6. 6Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

💡 Keep the pastry cold while shaping; warm butter reduces flakiness.
