Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

Soft, flaky crescent-style pastry rolled up with layers of deli ham and melted cheese, then sliced into irresistible spirals that disappear within minutes. Perfect for lunchboxes, party platters, or a quick after-school bite.

⏱ 25 minServes 4American

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (1 can, 235 g)
  • 150 g deli ham, thinly sliced
  • 0.75 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp dried parsley or chives
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2Unroll the crescent dough onto a lightly floured surface and press the seams together firmly to form one large rectangle.
  3. 3Mix cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder in a small bowl, then spread evenly over the dough leaving a 0.5-inch border on all sides.
  4. 4Layer ham slices evenly over the cream cheese mixture, then scatter shredded cheese and dried herbs on top.
  5. 5Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log, then pinch the seam to seal.
  6. 6Slice the log into 12 equal rounds using a sharp knife or unflavoured dental floss for clean cuts.
  7. 7Place pinwheels cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet, brush the tops with beaten egg, and bake for 13–15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. 8Cool for 5 minutes before serving warm or at room temperature.

💡 Pillsbury crescent roll dough is widely available at most Canadian grocery stores in the refrigerated section near the biscuits. Puff pastry sheets work as a flakier, showstopper alternative. Refrigerate unbaked sliced pinwheels overnight and bake fresh in the morning for lunchboxes.
