Hawaiian Pizza
The famously debated pizza invented right here in Canada — sweet pineapple, savoury Canadian back bacon, and melted mozzarella on a classic tomato base. Beloved by families everywhere.
⏱ 35 minServes 4Canadian
Ingredients
- •500 g store-bought pizza dough
- •0.5 cup pizza sauce
- •2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- •150 g Canadian back bacon (peameal or smoked), sliced
- •0.5 cup canned pineapple tidbits, well-drained
- •1 tbsp olive oil
- •0.5 tsp dried oregano
- •0.25 tsp black pepper
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet for 30 minutes.
- 2Pat pineapple tidbits completely dry with paper towels to prevent a soggy crust.
- 3Stretch dough to a 12-inch round on parchment and brush the border with olive oil.
- 4Spread pizza sauce over dough, then scatter mozzarella evenly.
- 5Arrange back bacon slices and pineapple evenly over the cheese; season with oregano and black pepper.
- 6Slide onto the hot surface and bake 10–13 minutes until crust is golden and cheese bubbles.
- 7Rest 2 minutes, then slice and serve.
💡 Fresh pineapple can be used instead of canned — just dice small and pat very dry. Smoked ham or prosciutto work as substitutes for back bacon if unavailable.
