⏱ 18 minServes 4Chinese-American

Ingredients

  • 500 g large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ¼ tsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 4 cups cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Directions

  1. 1Pat shrimp completely dry with paper towel — this is the key to a good sear.
  2. 2Whisk honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili flakes, and cornstarch together in a small bowl.
  3. 3Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat; add shrimp in a single layer and cook 1 minute per side until pink and just opaque; transfer to a plate.
  4. 4Reduce heat to medium-high; add butter and garlic and cook 60 seconds until fragrant and just golden.
  5. 5Pour in the sauce and stir 30 seconds until it bubbles and thickens slightly.
  6. 6Return shrimp to the pan and toss to coat; cook 30 seconds more.
  7. 7Serve over rice or noodles, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

💡 Frozen shrimp work perfectly — thaw in cold water for 15 minutes. For a dairy-free version, swap butter for an extra tablespoon of vegetable oil.
