Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso
A copycat of the wildly popular coffeehouse drink — bold espresso shaken with a homemade brown sugar cinnamon syrup until perfectly frothy, then poured over ice with a splash of oat milk. Rich, slightly caramelized, and deeply satisfying.
⏱ 10 minServes 1American
Ingredients
- •2 shots espresso shots (or 3 tbsp strong brewed coffee)
- •2 tbsp brown sugar
- •2 tbsp water
- •1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- •1 cup ice cubes
- •1/4 cup oat milk (or any milk)
- •1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
- 1Combine brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and vanilla in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- 2Stir for 2 minutes until the sugar fully dissolves to form a thin syrup, then remove from heat.
- 3Brew 2 shots of espresso using a machine, pod brewer, or stovetop moka pot; let cool for 2 minutes.
- 4Fill a cocktail shaker or a mason jar with a tight lid with ice.
- 5Pour the warm espresso and the brown sugar syrup into the shaker.
- 6Shake vigorously for 20 seconds until the mixture is frothy and the shaker feels cold.
- 7Fill a tall glass with fresh ice cubes.
- 8Strain the shaken espresso over the ice.
- 9Pour oat milk gently over top and serve immediately.
💡 No espresso machine? Dissolve 2 tsp of instant espresso powder (like Nescafé Espresso) in 1/4 cup of hot water — it works beautifully here. Oat milk is the classic choice for creaminess without heaviness, but any milk works. Make extra brown sugar syrup and refrigerate it for up to 2 weeks.
