Kofta Curry

Tender spiced meatballs simmered in a rich, aromatic tomato-based curry sauce with warming Indian spices.

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 400ml canned tomatoes
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste salt

Directions

  1. 1Mix ground meat with chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and salt. Form into 12-16 meatballs.
  2. 2Heat oil in a large pan and fry meatballs until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. 3In the same pan, sauté sliced onions until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  4. 4Add tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, breaking them down with a spoon.
  5. 5Stir in yogurt gradually to avoid curdling, then add garam masala.
  6. 6Return meatballs to the pan, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes until curry thickens and flavors meld.
  7. 7Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
