Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. 2Cream together butter and brown sugar, then mix in molasses and egg until combined.
  3. 3In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. 4Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. 5Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  6. 6Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are set but centers remain slightly soft.
  7. 7Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. 8Dust cooled cookies with powdered sugar before serving.
