Lo Bak Go (Cantonese Turnip Cake)
Cantonese radish cake steamed with rice flour, dried shrimp, and Chinese sausage, then pan-crisped into savoury slices.

Ingredients
- •2 lb daikon radish, coarsely grated
- •2 cups rice flour
- •2 cups water
- •4 oz Chinese sausage, finely diced
- •1/3 cup dried shrimp, soaked and chopped
- •3 green onions, sliced
- •2 tbsp vegetable oil
- •1 tbsp soy sauce
- •1/4 tsp white pepper
- •1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- 1Cook the grated daikon with 1 cup water for 8 minutes until softened.
- 2Fry the Chinese sausage and dried shrimp in 1 tablespoon oil for 4 minutes.
- 3Mix rice flour, remaining water, soy sauce, white pepper, and salt into a batter.
- 4Combine daikon, sausage mixture, green onions, and batter, then spread in an oiled pan.
- 5Steam for 40 minutes until firm, then cool completely before slicing.
- 6Pan-fry the slices in remaining oil for 2–3 minutes per side until crisp.
💡 Chill the steamed cake before slicing if possible; cold lo bak go cuts cleanly and crisps without breaking.
