Ingredients
- •2 cups all-purpose flour
- •2 teaspoons baking powder
- •1/2 teaspoon salt
- •1/2 cup butter, softened
- •1 cup sugar
- •2 eggs
- •1 cup sour cream
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •1/4 cup cocoa powder
- •1/4 cup hot water
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- 2Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- 3Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then beat in eggs one at a time and vanilla extract.
- 4Alternate adding flour mixture and sour cream to the batter, beginning and ending with flour.
- 5Pour half the batter into the pan. Mix cocoa powder with hot water and stir into remaining batter, then pour chocolate batter over vanilla layer and swirl gently with a knife.
- 6Bake 35-40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
💡 For a distinct marble pattern, divide the cake batter before adding cocoa and swirl only a few times; overmixing turns the whole loaf uniformly brown.
