Moong Dal Tadka

Ingredients
- •1 cup yellow moong dal (split mung beans)
- •3 cups water
- •1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- •2 tablespoons ghee or vegetable oil
- •1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- •2 dried red chili peppers
- •4 cloves garlic, minced
- •1 inch ginger, minced
- •1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- •1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- •2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- •1 onion, finely chopped
Directions
- 1Rinse moong dal thoroughly and cook with 3 cups water and turmeric powder for 15-20 minutes until soft and creamy.
- 2Mash the cooked dal lightly with a spoon until you reach a semi-smooth consistency.
- 3Heat ghee in a separate pan and add cumin seeds and dried red chilies; let them splutter for 30 seconds.
- 4Add minced garlic and ginger, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 5Add chopped onion and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- 6Pour this tempering mixture into the cooked dal and stir well.
- 7Add salt and black pepper, then simmer for 3-4 minutes on low heat.
- 8Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or Indian bread.
