Mushroom and Swiss Burger

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Directions

  1. 1Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and form into patties about 0.75 inch thick. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. 2Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sauté sliced mushrooms and onions until golden and tender, about 8 minutes. Set aside.
  3. 3In the same skillet, cook burgers over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness.
  4. 4Top each burger with a slice of Swiss cheese and cook for 1 more minute until melted.
  5. 5Toast the burger buns lightly if desired, then spread with mayonnaise.
  6. 6Place each burger on a bun and top with the sautéed mushroom and onion mixture. Serve immediately.
