Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar for coating
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon for coating

Directions

  1. 1Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
  2. 2Whisk together egg, buttermilk, and melted butter in another bowl, then combine with dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with a donut cutter.
  4. 4Heat oil to 350°F in a deep pot or fryer.
  5. 5Fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown, working in batches.
  6. 6Drain on paper towels, then toss while still warm in a bowl with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
