Ingredients

  • 1 cup mixed dried fruits (raisins, candied citron, candied orange peel)
  • 1 cup almonds, roughly chopped
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 300°F and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. 2Heat honey and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until combined, about 2 minutes.
  3. 3Mix flour, cocoa powder, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper in a bowl, then add dried fruits, almonds, and butter to the honey mixture.
  4. 4Combine wet and dry ingredients until well mixed, then pour into prepared pan, pressing down firmly.
  5. 5Bake for 25-30 minutes until the edges are set but the center remains slightly soft.
  6. 6Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. 7Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
