Ingredients
- •1 pound ground beef or lamb
- •1 pound penne or rigatoni pasta
- •1 medium onion, diced
- •3 cloves garlic, minced
- •1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- •4 tablespoons butter
- •3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- •2 cups whole milk
- •1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- •2 tablespoons olive oil
- •1 teaspoon dried oregano
- •to taste salt and pepper
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, and set aside.
- 2Heat olive oil in a large pan, sauté onion and garlic until softened, then add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it apart.
- 3Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper; simmer for 15 minutes until sauce thickens.
- 4Make béchamel sauce: melt butter, whisk in flour to form a paste, gradually add milk while stirring until smooth and thick (about 5 minutes).
- 5Stir half the Parmesan cheese into the béchamel sauce.
- 6In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half the pasta, then all the meat sauce, then remaining pasta.
- 7Pour béchamel sauce over the top layer and spread evenly, then sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.
- 8Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
