Ingredients

  • •2 tablespoons olive oil
  • •1 medium onion, diced
  • •4 cloves garlic, minced
  • •1 pound ground beef
  • •1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • •1/2 cup green olives, sliced
  • •1/3 cup raisins
  • •2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • •1 teaspoon cumin
  • •1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • •to taste salt and pepper

Directions

  1. 1Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. 2Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. 3Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. 4Stir in tomato paste, cumin, and oregano, cooking for 1 minute to combine.
  5. 5Add the diced tomatoes, olives, and raisins to the skillet.
  6. 6Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens and flavors meld together.
  7. 7Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve over cooked rice.

💡 Picadillo balances savoury beef with sweet and briny accents. Add raisins and olives near enough to the end that each remains recognizable.
