Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar (icing sugar), sifted
  • 2–3 tablespoons whole milk or water
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

  1. 1Sift the powdered sugar into a medium bowl to remove any lumps.
  2. 2Add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk or water.
  3. 3Whisk vigorously until completely smooth and no lumps remain.
  4. 4Check consistency: the icing should fall from the whisk in a slow, steady ribbon. Add the remaining tablespoon of liquid a teaspoon at a time if it is too thick to drizzle.
  5. 5Use immediately, or transfer to an airtight jar and refrigerate for up to one week. Stir well before reusing and thin with a few drops of liquid if needed.

💡 For citrus icing, replace the milk with fresh lemon or orange juice and omit the vanilla.
