Ingredients
- •2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- •1 teaspoon baking soda
- •1 teaspoon salt
- •1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- •1/2 cup vegetable oil
- •1.5 cups granulated sugar
- •2 large eggs
- •1 cup buttermilk
- •1 teaspoon white vinegar
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •1 ounce red food coloring
- •8 oz cream cheese, softened
- •1/2 cup butter, softened
- •3 cups powdered sugar
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a bowl.
- 3Beat oil and sugar together, then add eggs one at a time. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, then stir in vinegar, vanilla, and food coloring until batter is deep red.
- 4Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 15 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks.
- 5Beat cream cheese and butter together until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
- 6Place one cake layer on a plate, spread frosting on top, then add second layer and frost the top and sides.
