Ingredients
- •2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- •1 cup butter, softened
- •3/4 cup granulated sugar
- •1 egg yolk
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •1/2 teaspoon salt
- •1 cup caramel sauce
- •1 teaspoon fleur de sel or sea salt
Directions
- 1Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 2Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then beat in egg yolk and vanilla extract.
- 3Mix in flour and salt until just combined to form dough.
- 4Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, flatten slightly, and make a small indent in the center of each.
- 5Bake for 12-14 minutes until edges are lightly golden, then remove from oven.
- 6Fill each indent with 1 teaspoon of caramel sauce and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
- 7Return to oven for 2-3 minutes until caramel softens, then cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
💡 Flaky salt belongs on salted-caramel cookies after baking or just before the oven; mixing it entirely into the dough loses the sharp salty contrast.
