Sausage Butty

A classic British breakfast sandwich featuring juicy grilled sausages nestled in soft buttered bread with crispy onions and tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 pork sausages
  • 2 slices white or brown bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sauce (HP or Lea & Perrins)
  • to taste salt and pepper

Directions

  1. 1Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and cook the sausages for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. 2In the same pan, add the sliced onions and fry for 4-5 minutes until softened and beginning to caramelize.
  3. 3Toast the bread slices and spread butter on both sides while still warm.
  4. 4Spread tomato ketchup and brown sauce on one slice of bread.
  5. 5Place the cooked sausages on top of the sauced bread, then add the fried onions.
  6. 6Top with the second slice of bread, slice diagonally if desired, and serve immediately.
