Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Directions

  1. 1Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat and transfer to the slow cooker.
  2. 2Add diced onion and minced garlic to the slow cooker with the beef.
  3. 3Stir in chili powder, cumin, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, and both beans.
  4. 4Season with salt and black pepper, then stir well to combine all ingredients.
  5. 5Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
  6. 6Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving with toppings like sour cream, shredded cheese, or cornbread.
