Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 pounds chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, breasts)
  • 3 cups vegetable oil

Directions

  1. 1Pour buttermilk into a bowl and place chicken pieces in it, coating well. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. 2In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. 3Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet or deep fryer to 350°F.
  4. 4Remove chicken from buttermilk and coat thoroughly in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  5. 5Carefully place chicken pieces into hot oil and fry for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F, turning halfway through cooking.
  6. 6Transfer cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. 7Serve hot and enjoy.
