Spaghetti alle Polpette

Tender Italian meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce served over al dente spaghetti.

Ingredients

  • 400g ground beef
  • 100g ground pork
  • 50g breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 50g Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 400g spaghetti
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • for garnish fresh basil

Directions

  1. 1Combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, half the garlic, salt, and pepper. Form into 16 meatballs.
  2. 2Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Brown meatballs on all sides for 8 minutes, then remove and set aside.
  3. 3In the same pan, sauté remaining garlic for 1 minute until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. 4Return meatballs to the pan, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes until cooked through.
  5. 5Meanwhile, cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain.
  6. 6Divide spaghetti among bowls, top with meatballs and sauce, garnish with basil and extra Parmesan, and serve immediately.
